Rewrite Custom application:port but keep friendly domain & url?

We have a custom help application on our Intranet that we'd like to mask the application port and server name from. So I've done the following (names changed to protect...blah blah blah).  Again, this is on our Intranet, so there's no .com or www.xxx.com business..

The server in question is called "abc-helpme"

Users can point a web browser to http://abc-helpme:1234 and run the helper app just fine, but we dont like that unfriendlyness..

I've created an Alias/CNAME on our dns server called "helpme" that points at abc-helpme.  Our users can now open a web browser and type "helpme" and get to abc-helpme, however of course they get the default web page.

We'd like to rewrite requests that say "helpme" to redirect to http://abc-helpme:1234 but still say http://helpme

I've been tinkering for several days.  I did get it working at one point to where it bumped over to port 1234 but it displayed the unfriendly url to the user.

I've installed ARR, but haven't got it quite right I guess.

HELPME!   (heh)

thanks in advance (TIA),

Aaron
