We are running on SBS-2008R2 with IIS7 and I have successfully created a test web site which I can access locally. I would like to test the site from an external client, but as the final site will be hosted by a 3rd party, I would like to use our external static IP address for testing. Currently if I enter the external IP address in a browser the IIS7 default web site comes up (IIS7 welcome screen), so the server appears to receiving the external request. The question is how do I form the url to access the test site given the information below, and could this be a local DNS issue?
- Small Business Server 2008R2 running IIS7
- local domain is companyname.local
- site bindings in IIS7 are IP Address: All Assigned, Port: 80, Host Name: test.companyname.local
- local DNS server entry for CNAME in Forward Lookup Zone for companyname.local: Alias: test, FQDN: test.companyname.local, FQDN for target host: servername.campanyname.local
- port forwarding on NAT router enabled on port 80 to server IP
- Windows Firewall exception enabled for WWW Services
If I try http://1.2.3.4/test or http://1.2.3.4/test.companyname.local I get a Server Error page "404 - File or directory not found" which appears to be generated by IIS. (Note that extensionless urls are enabled for the web site and that adding /default.cshtml has no effect). If I had to guess, it appears that all requests are going to the default web site and nothing is reaching the test web site.
